Apprentice News

Meet Elly, a first-year apprentice enrolled in Automotive Refinishing Technology. She originally started with a Certificate II in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology but later discovered she could combine her love for art with fixing cars.

“I realised that I could turn cars into artworks by using my passion for art and painting. I’ve been painting for a long time, so I’m excited about my future in the automotive industry,” shared Elly.

“I love the challenges and rewards of my job, especially when my paintwork makes cars look shiny and beautiful. That’s definitely my favourite part,” she said. “As a kid, I only really played with Hot Wheels, and that was it for my interest in cars. It wasn’t until I had to buy my own car that my true interest and passion for them started. I haven’t looked back since.”

Elly dreams of painting submarines for the Australian Defence Force or owning her own repair shop someday. Right now, she is focused solely on completing her apprenticeship.

“The MTA has been really supportive, and I’m grateful to my VET Coordinator for helping me get here,” she said. “Every day, I get to fuse my love for art with my job, turning cars into canvases. It’s so much fun. More women are joining in, and it feels fantastic to witness and be involved in this change.”

Elly’s story is inspiring for new apprentices interested in painting cars. It shows that with passion, creativity, and learning, there are exciting opportunities in the vibrant world of automotive painting.

Outside of work, Elly enjoys playing cricket and designing her own fashionable clothing!
