Liam is taking on a dual trade apprenticeship in Light Vehicle and Auto Electrical at ABS Salisbury. “With all the EVs coming into the industry, I thought I’d better learn how to actually work on them so I don’t get stuck – or hurt myself!” he laughs.
Liam’s path into the trade started thanks to his best mate.
“He’s an apprentice too, and one day his workshop was super busy, so I went in to help. They showed me what to do, and I immediately thought, ‘yep, this is what I want to do.’”
Cars have always been a part of Liam’s world. His family spends weekends working on their cars, going to Summernats, and having fun in the shed. He’s been to plenty of car and bike meets and rides bikes himself. When something goes wrong with his own car, he’s straight onto fixing it – brakes, power steering, alternators, you name it.
Long term, Liam has a big plan: finish his apprenticeship, fast-track into motorcycle mechanics and eventually open a dual shop for cars and bikes.
“But right now,” he says, “I just want to soak up as much information as I can.”
After a week-long trial at ABS, he knew he’d found the right place.
“The team is all good people. They all seem to love me, and I love all of them,” Liam says.
When he’s not working on cars, you’ll find him at car and bike meets or playing a few video games – but most of the time, cars and bikes are where it’s at.
With his drive to learn and passion for everything on wheels, Liam is on the road to building a career he loves – and maybe one day, his own workshop.
