Apprentice News

Meet Shayne, a passionate first-year apprentice from Waikerie Crash Pty Ltd training to become an Automotive Body Repair Technician. His interest lies in restoring classic cars like his 1983 Toyota Century.

Shayne’s journey into car restoration began when he spotted this gem in a shed and knew he had to make it shine again! “I was renting a house when I stumbled upon this car in a shed. The moment I saw it, I knew I had to own it. I eventually bought it off the owner, which was a very exciting moment.”

Originally designed for high-profile individuals in Japan, Shayne’s car came equipped with a range of luxurious features including electric windows, massage seats, and even a built-in mini fridge! Shayne teamed up with his dad, a skilled spray painter and uncle, a skilled panel beater, to restore this gem, bringing back its former glory from rusty old paint to showroom perfection.

Shayne’s career aspirations are centred around restoration work, particularly focusing on older cars and similar projects. Shayne finds joy in the process of working on classic cars, and he particularly enjoys the satisfaction of seeing a project through to its beautifully restored finish.

Now, Shayne is working towards a career in restoring vintage cars to preserve their history and craftsmanship.
