The MTA’s Industry Advisory Council (IAC) received an exclusive opportunity to hear from Deputy Premier Susan Close, as well as share insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the automotive industry.

Holding the portfolios of Industry, Innovation and Science, Climate Change, Environment and Water, as well as the newly established Workforce and Population and Strategy ministry, the Deputy Premier heard about the complexities of recycling automotive plastics such as bumper bars, as well as emerging challenges with the rise in electric vehicles.

Like her colleague, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Tom Koutsantonis, she shared her reservations about visions for an electric vehicle only future, instead favouring a technology mix.

The meeting concluded with Motor Trades Association of Australia CEO Matt Hobbs updating the IAC on the Federal Election blueprint and the revitalisation of national industry sector committees.
