“From a young age, I knew I wanted to work with engines. When it came time to choose a career, I knew it had to be something hands-on. I was deciding between heavy and mobile plant, but I figured mobile plant had more diversity and that’s what drew me in. Now, I’m a Mobile Plant Apprentice at SA Lift & Loader, working towards my goal of becoming fully qualified and continuing to learn as much as I can.”
“Working on machines every day is something I genuinely look forward to. Outside of work, I spend a lot of time around cars, whether it’s working on my own or helping my brother with his Ford Escort MK2 and panel van. Just the other day, I helped him replace his passenger door latch. He’s the one who got me into cars – I’ve been obsessed since I was 11 or 12. The first car that caught my eye was a red MX-5 at a meet he took me to, and from that moment, I was hooked. Cars and Coffee and All Japan Day are my go-to events – I always have a great time there.”
“What I love about the automotive industry is how much it teaches you beyond just work. You gain the skills to repair and maintain your own vehicles, meaning you don’t always have to rely on a shop. It’s a career that gives you independence while also allowing you to help others.”
“Before starting my apprenticeship, my family and I travelled around Australia in a caravan after selling our house. That trip was what really got me into cars. When we returned to Adelaide, I joined St Pat’s Technical College and completed an Automotive Servicing Technology course. That was the first big step toward my apprenticeship.”
“Now, I’m most excited about the day I can work independently, without supervision, and confidently complete jobs on my own. Every day is a step closer to that goal.”
