Meet Michael Novokavich, a first-year apprentice who’s learning to fix big, powerful vehicles at the MTA. He’s loved cars and motorcycles since he was a kid.
“At first, I considered pursuing a career as a mechanical engineer, but I realised that I preferred a more hands-on and practical approach.” This led him to gain experience in various roles, specialising in tasks like alternator removals and routine services for light vehicles.
His journey took an exciting turn when he started working with tractors at Kubota, honing his mechanical skills. The large size of these vehicles matched his 6’6″ height, and he thought if he could fix a big truck, he could handle any vehicle in the future.
Currently hosted at Arends Trailers in Murray Bridge, Michael aspires to become a fully qualified diesel mechanic. He keeps his career path open-ended, considering the idea of opening his own garage someday, anywhere in Australia or beyond.
Beyond the garage, Michael enjoys working on his own cars, modifying 4x4s, and indulging in off-road adventures. He’s also into mountain biking and motorcycles, which he plans to tinker with in his garage.
In a world where mechanics are essential for keeping the wheels of industry turning, Michael’s journey is an inspiring reminder of the endless possibilities that the automotive industry offers. “Trucks play a big role in keeping Australia moving, and I know I’ll always be in demand as a diesel mechanic,” Michael said.
