In May, MTA Training and Employment joined forces with Jarvis Toyota Brighton to host a Careers Open Night, offering young people a practical insight into careers in the automotive industry.

Over 50 students, parents, and teachers attended the event, gaining real-world insight into the day-to-day operations of a modern automotive workshop. Attendees rotated through a series of interactive stations, where they had the opportunity to:

  • Perform basic vehicle checks
  • Learn how to safely jack up a car and remove wheels
  • Inspect brake systems and suspension components
  • Use diagnostic tools to scan for vehicle faults
  • Explore career pathways in mechanical, electrical, and service roles

It was fantastic to see such strong engagement, with students asking questions, trying their hand at workshop tasks, and speaking directly with qualified technicians and apprentices. The event was a great example of how industry and training providers can work together to give young people the exposure they need to make informed career decisions.

A big thank you to the team at Jarvis Toyota for opening their doors and sharing their knowledge with the next generation of automotive professionals.

If you’re a school or coordinator interested in taking part in future careers nights or organising a similar experience for your students, please get in touch with the MTA School Pathways team by emailing careers@mtasant.com.au.
