NT electric vehicle sales accelerate

More electric vehicles were sold in the first half of this year in the Northern Territory compared to all of 2022, according to new statistics.

“Northern Territory electric vehicle sales have increased this year by 290 per cent,” Motor Trade Association CEO Darrell Jacobs said.

“There is now more choice, more affordable models and electric vehicles with more range.

“We know the transition to EVs will not happen overnight but we are seeing sales increase as new manufacturers and cars continue to enter the Australian market.”

Year to date 106 electric vehicles have been sold in the Northern Territory, compared to 68 across all of last year.
The Tesla Model 3 has been the NT’s most popular new EV.

Two Chinese brands recently unveiled Australia’s cheapest electric vehicles, priced under $40,000 for the first time.

Overall new car sales across the territory have remained steady, with 5,107 being purchased across the first half of the year compared to a corresponding 5,197 in 2022.

“Local dealerships have new cars available for sale and used car prices also appear to be easing after previous supply constraints,” Mr Jacobs said.

“Despite gradual EV uptake, Territorians still love their utes and 4X4’s.”
