Smoking & Vaping

Our Royal Park training facility has a designated smoking area that is located in the south-eastern corner of the premises. This is the only area where smoking or vaping is permitted.  If you are a smoker or a vapor and are not aware of the location of the designated smoking area – please ask a representative of MTA and they will be happy to show you.

Speed Limit

The MTA training facilities have many shared zones where there is an opportunity for pedestrian and vehicle interaction.  To minimise risk, particularly to pedestrians, our training facilities have a 10kmph speed limit, unless signed otherwise.  The speed limit is in place for your safety so please ensure the limit is respected and the way you drive is suitable for the environment and conditions at all times.

PPE

When attending trade school, it’s important and a requirement that you have and are wearing suitable PPE when in our workshops, particularly when performing practical tasks.

What does this mean?

Safety glasses – This is a mandatory requirement inside any of the MTA workshops.  The intent of safety glasses is to protect your eyes – wearing them on top of your head isn’t serving that purpose!

Suitable gloves – Hand injuries are one of the most common types of injuries.  Take the time to assess the task you are performing and ensure you are wearing appropriate gloves that will protect your hands.

Safety boots – Students need to ensure they are wearing safety boots that comply to AS 2210.3.  Your safety boots should have adequate tread, not have the toe cap exposed and be zipped or laced up where fitted with zips or laces to ensure they provide ankle support.  Speak to your Field Officer if your safety boots require replacing.  There have been occasions where students have worn inappropriate footwear to trade school, in some cases crocs have made an appearance!

Long pants – Make sure you are wear long pants to trade school as you will not be able to perform the required practical components of your training if you rock up in shorts.

Whilst MTA will provide our apprentices with PPE, let’s all remember to consider the environment when preparing for trade school and bring your PPE with you!

Remember, while at work, you must take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
