MTA Training and Employment’s VET in School program, Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology (AUR20520) will give you a head start with the skills and knowledge you need to prepare for an apprenticeship with MTA Training and Employment (MTA) and ultimately a successful career in the automotive industry!

Course Details

You’ll learn about workplace safety, basic automotive fault finding, troubleshooting techniques, batteries, wheel balancing, braking systems, cooling systems, steering systems, suspension systems, and the use of automotive tools and equipment. This course is delivered as a VET in Schools program at either MTA Training and Employment, or an eligible host school.

The course covers the following units:

  • AURAEA002 – Follow environmental and sustainability best practice in an automotive workplace
  • AURASA102 – Follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace
  • AURATA001 – Identify basic automotive faults using troubleshooting processes
  • AURETR115 – Inspect, test and service batteries
  • AURTTA104 – Carry out servicing operations
  • AURTTB101 – Inspect and service braking systems
  • AURTTC001 – Inspect and service cooling systems
  • AURTTD002 – Inspect and service steering systems
  • AURTTD004 – Inspect and service suspension systems
  • AURTTE104 – Inspect and service engines
  • AURTTK102 – Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace
  • AURTTQ001 – Inspect and service final drive assemblies
  • AURTTQ103 – Inspect and service drive shafts
  • AURETR103 – Identify automotive electrical systems and components
  • AURLTA101 – Identify automotive mechanical systems and components
  • AURLTJ102 – Remove, inspect, repair and refit light vehicle tyres and tubes
  • AURTTF101 – Inspect and service petrol fuel systems
  • AURTTF102 – Inspect and service diesel fuel injection systems
  • AURTTK001 – Use and maintain measuring equipment in an automotive workplace
  • AURTTJ011 – Balance wheels and tyres
Eligibility

If you are interested in studying with MTA Training and Employment as part of your secondary schooling, the first thing you need to do is speak with your school career counsellor or VET Coordinator, and make sure you meet the eligibility criteria.

To be eligible for access to a subsidised training place in an approved course, a school student must meet the following criteria. They must be:

  • An Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen or,
  • A permanent Australian resident or,
  • An eligible visa holder
  • Reside in South Australia

AND ARE:

  • Enrolled in Year 10, 11 or 12 and employed in a Training Contract that combines VET and school based curriculum including SACE

OR ARE:

  • Enrolled in Year 11, 12 or 13 and are 16 years of age or turning 16 years of age in the current year of that enrolment, and
  • Are undertaking SACE or equivalent and,
  • Have completed a preparatory VET pathway
Course Outcome

On successful completion, you will be awarded AUR20520 Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology. If you do not complete, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency you have completed.

Delivery Mode

This is a 1-year course delivered at the MTA Training and Employment’s Royal Park Training Centre or eligible host schools, one day per week. Training commences in Term one of every school year.

Course times: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm (may vary depending on venue)

Course Fees

Metro: $530 (includes a work shirt)
Regional: $580 (includes a work shirt)

Students will need to purchase safety boots.
