The automotive industry is experiencing rapid change with the increased uptake of battery electric vehicles (BEV).
Participants will learn to ensure the vehicle’s high voltage (HV) rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) is isolated before working on the vehicle.
COURSE DETAILS
This course is intended for those who are working or intend to work on battery electric-powered vehicles. It provides students with the skills and knowledge to be able to safely depower a battery electric vehicle prior to working on it.
Additionally, it provides students with the skills and knowledge to work with automotive electrical components, maintain rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS), and perform basic tests on electric drive motors.
This course is suited to automotive technicians. An understanding of basic electrical principles is required.
COURSE OUTLINE
- Electrical safety and workplace policies and procedures relevant to Hybrid (HEV) Vehicles
- General principles of operation of High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical systems, including AC and DC
- Applicable Commonwealth, state or territory legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice relevant to working on Hybrid Vehicles
- Testing of RESS and drive motors, electrical sub-systems and associated components
PREREQUISITES
Participants should be working in the automotive industry and have a good understanding of basic electrical.
DELIVERY MODE
This two-day course is delivered at the MTA Training and Employment’s Royal Park Training Centre.
Prior to attending the course, all participants are required to complete an online learning module, designed to provide them with the knowledge to be able to successfully complete the practical component.
Course times: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

On successful completion, a statement of attainment will be issued for:
- AURETH101 Depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles
- AURETH102 Inspect and maintain battery electric vehicles
