The automotive industry is experiencing rapid change with the increased uptake of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV/BEV).

Participants will learn to ensure the vehicle’s high voltage (HV) rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) is isolated before working with the automotive electrical components and electrical systems that support the control and operation of the vehicle.

COURSE DETAILS

This course is intended for those who are working or intend to work on hybrid-powered vehicles. It provides students with the skills and knowledge to be able to safely depower a hybrid vehicle prior to working on it.

Additionally, it provides students with the skills and knowledge required to test the electrical systems and components of a hybrid vehicle.

This course is suited to automotive technicians. An understanding of basic electrical principles is required.

COURSE OUTLINE
  • Electrical safety and workplace policies and procedures relevant to Hybrid (HEV) Vehicles
  • General principles of operation of High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical systems, including AC and DC
  • Applicable Commonwealth, state or territory legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice relevant to working on Hybrid Vehicles
  • Testing of electrical systems and components, including problems associated with the performance of electrical systems
  • Servicing and maintaining the electrical systems of a hybrid vehicle
PREREQUISITES

Participants should be working in the automotive industry and have a good understanding of basic electrical.

DELIVERY MODE

This two-day course is delivered at the MTA Training and Employment’s Royal Park Training Centre.

Prior to attending the course, all participants are required to complete an online learning module, designed to provide them with the knowledge to be able to successfully complete the practical component.

Course times: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

COURSE OUTCOME

On successful completion, a statement of attainment will be issued for:

  • AURETH011 Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles
  • AURETH012 Service and maintain electrical components in hybrid electric vehicles
